We have just returned from our annual week on Lake Huron with my family. Most families enjoy just hanging out on vacation, but we are not most families. For us, family time is project time. We paint and draw and quilt and crochet and dance and make pinatas and Chinese dragons and have masquerades and so on.
This year our chief endeavor was to produce a puppet show version of one of the kids’ favorite books: Good Night,Gorilla. I’m sure I’d be violating copyright to show you all of it, but here are some photos to give you a sense. Our puppeteers included my boys and their cousins, ranging in age from nine years to eighteen months, and they performed before a packed house of aunties and uncles with Grandpa taking the lead on set design and direction. There were a few mishaps and one curiously flying zookeeper’s wife, but in all the critics agreed that it was the greatest puppet show ever produced.
